Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Microbiology Department at the Basingstoke site. The role involves processing a range of samples and body fluids to aid diagnosis and patient care; you will run analysers, prepare reagents, perform quality control and report results.

The successful candidate will be motivated, well organised, with GCSE science background and good typing skills.

Qualifications

• GCSE level science knowledge required.
• Typing skills and computer experience advantageous.
• Experience in laboratory environment is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Process and analyse pathology samples using routine and complex diagnostic procedures.
• Perform routine operative maintenance on laboratory instruments and undertake corrective maintenance and troubleshooting when appropriate.
• Prepare quality control material and collate returned results.
• Check that quality control results on analytical procedures are within the stated ranges, in accordance with laboratory policy.
• Maintain adequate storage of samples after analysis and their correct disposal.
