Job description

Job summary
This Senior Clinician and Supervisor would work closely with the MHST Clinical Lead, the MHST Operational Manager, and other clinical colleagues/partner agencies. The post holder will also be required to undertake the EMHP supervisor training (provided by Kings College London or Sussex University), working alongside other clinicians and supervisors from other MHST sites.
The role is predominantly supervisory. However, the post holder will deliver clinical interventions, both targeted and under the Whole School Approach, to maintain professional registrations and continue to develop. The post holder will need to remain current in evidence-based interventions and have a good working knowledge of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
Supervisors are also key to service development in progressing and adapting interventions to ensure we are an inclusive service and contributing to research and development of the MHSTs nationally.
We are an inclusive service and contributing to research and development of the MHSTs nationally.
We are serious about diversity and inclusion, and we are working hard to build this into our DNA. We warmly welcome applications for any of our roles from people from diverse backgrounds, and we are proactively encouraging applications from under-represented communities for our more senior roles, like this one.
Main duties of the job
Part of the post's requirement is that the post holder enrols on the Kings College London or Sussex University EMHP supervisor course, which will be supported and funded as part of the role.
Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are a government initiative to increase children and young people's access to emotional wellbeing and mental health support. They form part of the national Children and Young People's Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) programme.
MHSTs are based in schools and colleges and support more than 470,000 children and young people nationally. They complement existing support within education settings and have three main functions:

  • Targeted Intervention
  • Whole School Approach
  • Consultation and Liaison

Visit our website for further information about MHSTs and their services.
The teams build on support already provided by school counsellors, nurses, educational psychologists and the voluntary sector, helping children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs. They also support those with more severe needs to access appropriate services and provide links to NHS mental health teams.
We have vacancies in:

  • Medway & Swale MHST
  • Dartford, Gravesham & Sevenoaks MHST

About us
We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway and are rated 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD.
Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve.
Our vision is simple: we are here to help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well. It's why we're passionate about working with communities to make mental health care better for everyone. Everything we do is guided by our values: caring, inclusive, curious and confident.
Join us if you share our passion for better mental health care and want to be part of a team that's working well together.

Job responsibilities

We are keen to have a diverse team from different backgrounds (Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, CBT therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse) with a common interest in children's mental health and wellbeing.
CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A GOOD LEVEL OF COMPETENCE IN DELIVERING CBT-INFORMED INTERVENTIONS.
Successful applicants may be required to attend future EMHP supervisor training courses, depending on their current supervisor skills, qualifications, and experience. We secure and ensure these spaces are funded so our workforce can deliver high-quality evidence-based interventions.
You will be entitled to annual leave and bank holiday entitlement based on years of NHS services. Due to service needs, annual leave will predominantly need to be taken during school holiday periods. Following line management discussion and agreement, a maximum of a week can be considered within term time.
