Job summary

DCS Recruitment is seeking a Metrology Engineer for a permanent, full-time role based in Deeside. You will work on dimensional inspection of high-spec aerospace, defence, automotive and precision components using CMMs, FARO Arms and laser scanning systems.

You will create and optimise CMM programs, read complex drawings and GD&T, and generate accurate inspection reports while supporting CAL and quality processes across production and customer projects.

Qualifications

• Strong GD&T knowledge and dimensional inspection experience.
• Proficient in CMM programming and reading complex drawings.
• Experience with metrology equipment and CAQ/documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out dimensional inspection using CMMs, FARO Arms, laser scanning and conventional metrology equipment.
• Create, edit, and optimise CMM programs in PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, MCOSMOS, Aberlink or similar.
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T requirements.
• Produce accurate inspection reports, FAIRs and quality documentation.
• Support root cause analysis and non-conformance investigations.
• Liaise with Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering to resolve issues.
• Perform first-off, in-process and final inspections.
• Assist calibration and maintenance of metrology equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across inspection and quality processes.

Metrology Engineer
Permanent | Full Time

A growing precision engineering and inspection business is looking to appoint an experienced Metrology Engineer to join their team in Deeside. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in dimensional inspection, CMM programming and quality control to work on complex, high-spec components for aerospace, defence, automotive and advanced manufacturing customers.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring parts meet exacting standards, supporting both internal production and customer projects, and working closely with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.

What you’ll be doing

• Carrying out dimensional inspection of components and assemblies using CMMs, FARO Arms, laser scanning systems and conventional metrology equipment.
• Creating, editing and optimising CMM programs using software such as PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, MCOSMOS, Aberlink or similar.
• Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T requirements.
• Producing accurate inspection reports, FAIRs and other quality documentation.
• Supporting root cause analysis and non-conformance investigations.
• Liaising with Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering teams to resolve dimensional and process issues.
• Completing first-off, in-process and final inspections.
• Supporting calibration and maintenance of metrology equipment.
• Contributing to continuous improvement across inspection and quality processes.

What we’re looking for

• Previous experience as a Metrology Engineer, CMM Programmer or Senior Inspector.
• Strong understanding of GD&T.
• Experience using CMM equipment and portable metrology systems.
• Ability to read complex engineering drawings with confidence.
• Background in precision engineering, aerospace, automotive or defence manufacturing.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail.

Desirable experience

• 3D scanning or reverse engineering.
• Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO9001.
• CAD experience.
• Experience with PolyWorks or PC-DMIS.

Qualifications

• Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline.
• Metrology or quality-related certifications would be an advantage.
