Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate safe, efficient methods of work with required quality.
  • Develop construction methods and review temporary works and designs.
  • Identify risks and support quality processes while collaborating with design teams.
  • Produce and review earthworks quantities and related documentation.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and manage RFIs and design queries.

Methods Engineer

The Methods Engineer will help plan and coordinate how work will be carried out safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

The role involves developing construction methods, reviewing temporary works and technical designs, identifying risks, supporting engineering and quality processes, collaborating with project and design teams, and finding innovative solutions that improve safety, cost, and buildability.

Key responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Produce Methodology and Risk Assessments, undertaking periodic reviews.
  • Prepare and raise Temporary Works Briefs, ensuring timely implementation.
  • Consider buildability hazards and risks, proposing sequencing / alternate design options to minimize delivery risk.
  • Develop methods of work that take cognisance of the current design, temporary works available and industry best practice.
  • Ensure suitable temporary works design briefs and programmes of requirements are received.
  • Review temporary works designs.
  • Assist in the investigation of alternative designs and costs.
  • Ensure design risks are considered, using Designers Risk Assessments, communicating residual design risks as appropriate.
  • Ensure contract-specified checks are carried out and provide Managers with completed check certificates.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, identifying innovative and robust solutions.
  • Produce, review and verify earthworks quantities.
Quality
  • Support and develop trial scopes to verify designs.
  • Support with specification reviews, and review incorporation of trial results into specification updates.
  • Maintain a comprehensive filing system for all records.
  • Identify and raise technical queries (RFIs), and assist with solutions.
  • Track closeout of RFIs.
Commercial
  • Consider time and direct cost in Methods solutions.

Qualifications

  • CSCS Card
  • HND/NVQ in relevant engineering discipline (civil engineer, mechanical engineer, NVQ construction operations)

Experience

  • Understanding of technically complex and dynamic environments, with a focus on ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility.
  • Experience of working to and meeting tight deadlines, preferably in preconstruction stages.
  • Experience and good understanding of the technical and delivery aspects of the scope.
  • Ability to read and interrogate temporary works engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
