Job summary

Civil Works Alliance in Ipswich, England is seeking a Methods Engineer to support the SizewellC project on‑site. The role covers developing construction methods, reviewing temporary works, and collaborating with design teams to improve safety and buildability.

The candidate will produce method statements, assess risks, and help refine sequencing and design options to reduce cost and schedule impacts.

Qualifications

  • Essential experience in technically complex environments with focus on safety and deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interrogate temporary works drawings using CAD software.
  • Strong presentation, influencing, communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Produce method statements and risk assessments; conduct periodic reviews.
  • Prepare temporary works briefs, ensuring timely implementation.
  • Identify buildability hazards and risks; propose sequencing or alternate design options to minimize delivery risk.
  • Develop methods of work that consider current design, available temporary works and industry best practice.
  • Ensure temporary works design briefs and programmes of requirements are received and reviewed.
  • Assist in the investigation of alternative designs and costs; communicate residual design risks.
  • Carry out contract‑specified checks and provide managers with completed check certificates.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying innovative and robust solutions.
  • Produce, review and verify earthworks quantities.
  • Support specification reviews and incorporation of trial results into specification updates.
  • Maintain a comprehensive filing system for all records.
  • Identify and raise technical queries (RFIs); assist with solutions and track RFI closeout.
  • Consider time and direct cost in methods solutions.

Methods Engineer – Civil Works Alliance – Ipswich, England

Full‑time on‑site position supporting the construction of SizewellC, the UK’s 3.2‑GW low‑carbon power station that will supply clean electricity for a minimum of 60years. The role is within the Enabling and Earthwork Section and involves developing construction methods, reviewing temporary works and technical designs, identifying risks, supporting engineering and quality processes, and collaborating with project and design teams to improve safety, cost and buildability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce method statements and risk assessments; conduct periodic reviews.
  • Prepare and raise temporary works briefs, ensuring timely implementation.
  • Identify buildability hazards and risks; propose sequencing or alternate design options to minimize delivery risk.
  • Develop methods of work that consider current design, available temporary works and industry best practice.
  • Ensure temporary works design briefs and programmes of requirements are received and reviewed.
  • Assist in the investigation of alternative designs and costs; communicate residual design risks.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential Experience: Working in technically complex and dynamic environments with a focus on safety, security, and environmental responsibility; experience meeting tight deadlines, preferably in pre‑construction stages; good understanding of technical and delivery aspects of the scope.
  • Essential Skills & Qualifications: CSCS card; HND/NVQ in a relevant engineering discipline (civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or NVQ construction operations); ability to read and interrogate temporary works engineering drawings using CAD software; strong presentation, influencing, facilitation, communication and organisational skills; strong numerical and analytical skills.
