Job description

Barnfield Engineering has been providing specialised industrial installations and maintenance services to the Water Utility and Construction Industries in the UK since 1986 from our three branches across Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Wiltshire.

Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship
What does the Fabricator apprenticeship involve?

Successful candidates will learn and practice the full range of manufacturing processes, gaining knowledge both on the job and in the classroom. Supported by experienced Manufacturing Technicians, areas covered will include:

  • Interpreting Manufacturing Drawings
    • Interpretation of drawings
    • Tolerancing
    • Manufacturing symbols
  • CNC Laser / Punch
    • Programming/Nesting
    • Operation
    • In process inspection
  • Press Brake / Metal Bending
    • Setting
    • Operating
    • In process inspection
  • Welding and Fabrication
    • Drilling / Tapping / Countersinking
    • Sawing
    • MIG Welding
    • TIG Welding
    • Spot Welding
    • In process inspection
    • Jigs and fixtures
  • Mechanical Assembly
    • Use of assembly tools
    • Interpretation of assembly drawings
    • Use of non-metallics
    • Packaging
  • Inspection
    • Technical inspection, both in process and finished parts

You, as Fabricator, will be enrolled onto an NVQ training course to become a fully qualified Fabrication and Weld Operative. We are invested in continuous career development throughout your employment and a keen interest in engineering is crucial for this role. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve a nationally recognised engineering apprenticeship qualification.

Qualifications on completion of the apprenticeship

As well as gaining a broad range of professional knowledge and experience, you will gain academic and vocational qualifications such as the Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Standard. You will also achieve Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding, as well as a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Own transport is essential due to the rural location of the site.

Working Week

Monday - Friday 07:30 to 16:30. 40 hours a week
