Overview

Are you an experienced Metal Cutter / Burner looking for a new varied role in Newbury?

Join a safety-focused team specialising in dismantling heavy transformers using oxy-propane and other cutting equipment. This hands-on role offers responsibility, variety and the chance to work in an organised yard environment with a strong commitment to environmental care.

If you worked for IT Recycling, Veolia or SUEZ and have the relevant experience, this could be a great opportunity for you to bring your metal cutting skills to a new and rewarding setting!

Shift

• Monday to Friday - 07:00am to 17:00pm
• 45 hours per week

Pay

• £33,000 to £35,500 per annum

Responsibilities include

• Cut and dismantle transformers using oxy-propane torches and other industry standard cutting tools.
• Prepare units for safe oil extraction following strict environmental procedures.
• Operate in line with site risk assessments, PPE requirements, and hot work permits.
• Maintain burning equipment and conduct pre-use safety checks.
• Assist the Yard Supervisor in planning and prioritising tasks.
• Use forklifts safely to lift and move components.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area at all times.

What we\'re looking for

• Proven experience and training in oxy-fuel cutting (oxy-propane or oxy-acetylene)
• Awareness of Hot Work Permits and adherence to site safety protocols
• Valid forklift licence - Counterbalance
• Experience cutting thick steel and dismantling heavy equipment under tight deadlines
• Knowledge of hazardous materials including safe handling of transformer oils
• Minimum 1 year\'s experience in metal cutting, heavy dismantling, or scrap metal operations (preferred)
