Job description

Metabolic Bone Specialist Nurse

The closing date is 19 November 2025

The post holder will have specialist nursing responsibility for children/young people with Metabolic Bone Disease and their families, incorporating a care co-ordination remit as agreed within the multi‑disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Metabolic Bone Disease multidisciplinary team (MDT), working alongside medics and allied healthcare professionals as part of the wider Endocrinology MDT. They will act as a resource and support for children/young people, and their parents, with Metabolic Bone Disease, and also primary healthcare teams, shared care centres and other multidisciplinary teams at BCH.

Qualifications

• NMC registration sub part one children
• Recognised Teaching and assessing/mentoring qualification
• Evidence of continuous professional development
• NMC registered nurse teacher/willing to undertake
• Non-Medical Prescribing and patient assessment qualifications or a willingness to undertake

Knowledge and Experience

• Evidence of working well within the team
• Ability to motivate and support others
• Demonstrate an interest in the role of the nurse specialist caring for children and young people with metabolic bone disease.
• Demonstrate the ability to take responsibility for own on‑going professional development
• Evidence of Band 6 management experience
• Recent experience of mentoring junior staff/students
• Ability to access, use and interpret Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PEPR/Lorenzo, or willing to master
• Demonstration of current clinical skills in caring children and young people with metabolic bone disease
• Clinical Skills such as venepuncture and cannulation
• Be a member of/participate in local, regional and national group forums
• An understanding of local and national service delivery for children and young people with metabolic bone disease
