Job description
Overview

Location: National DBI – Flexible across Scotland

Salary: £24,618 - £25,944 per annum (£12.62 - £13.30 p/h equivalent)

Contract: Full time – Permanent

We are part of a new approach to Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) working with the NHS24 Mental Health Hub to support people experiencing distress. The service provides telephone/video support across Scotland in collaboration with SAMH, Support in Mind Scotland and local providers in Lanarkshire.

The DBI service receives referrals from the NHS24 Mental Health Hub, Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland (DBI Level 1). DBI Level 2 responds by contacting the referred person within 24 hours to discuss issues and possible support. Support is available for up to 14 days from first contact. Specific training is provided to all staff to ensure a consistent, connected, compassionate approach. Currently, most support will be delivered via telephone/video.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the DBI approach, recognised as innovative and pioneering. The DBI team is spread across Scotland; Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners are expected to work autonomously, maintaining up-to-date service systems and processes, including data collection, supported people records and integral service communication tools.

This role will involve hybrid working, largely home-based with occasional in-person meetings. This position is open to applicants based in Scotland. Areas provisioned by the service include Lothians, Tayside, Ayrshire & Arran, Grampians, Orkney & Shetland.

Responsibilities
  • Provide time-limited, supportive problem-solving contact to individuals in distress (DBI Level 2).
  • Engage with referrals from NHS24 Mental Health Hub, Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland.
  • Contact referred individuals within 24 hours and discuss suitable support options.
  • Deliver support up to 14 days from first contact, primarily via telephone/video.
  • Maintain data, supported people records and communication tools; ensure systems and processes are current.
  • Attend training to ensure a consistent, compassionate approach.
  • Work autonomously across the service and participate in occasional in-person meetings as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience in mental health or distress support is beneficial (not explicitly required in the description).
  • Ability to work remotely with occasional in-person meetings; based in Scotland.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive recruitment and reasonable adjustments for candidates with disabilities, neurodiversity, or mental health conditions.
  • Right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.
