Overview

Mental Health Waking Night Support Worker, Young People – Ashton on Ribble, Preston

Salary: £26986.96 per annum • Full Time 38.5 hours per week

Responsibilities
  • Support young people with mental health needs during night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
  • Update online care records and complete medication administration
  • Provide effective handovers to day staff and ensure accurate documentation
  • Assist with education, household tasks and general life skills to support independence
  • Respond to emergencies and de-escalate challenging behaviours; maintain a calm, professional approach
  • Maintain the safety and tidiness of the home to create a homely environment
  • Partner with other night staff or sleep-in arrangements and liaise with on-call management for additional support
Essential requirements
  • Flexibility to work night shifts including weekends and bank holidays
  • Must be able to attend training throughout employment (weekday sessions)
  • Good written skills to write basic reports and record information accurately
  • Basic IT skills (computer work, completing forms, using an online care system, writing emails)
  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to listen to others
  • Ability to maintain professional working boundaries
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies and support others during difficult situations
Desirable criteria
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent in Care
  • Previous experience working with young people who have mental health needs

Role environment

At Care in Mind our homes are active and welcoming. Night shifts involve interaction with residents and support for their wellbeing, education, household tasks and life skills. You will contribute to incident management and de-escalation; update records; complete medication administration; and provide handovers to day staff. You will help maintain a tidy, homely environment. You will have support from another night worker or a sleep-in and access to an on-call manager.

Location: Florida House, Preston

Florida House is a newly renovated 6-bed service located in Ashton-on-Ribble, offering a modern space with multiple communal areas and local amenities. The home is within reasonable reach of Preston Town Centre and local transport links.

Eligibility and development

Previous care experience is not essential; full training will be provided. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring from our residential and clinical teams, including Reflective Practice, 1:1 supervision and group staff support.
