Mental Health Teaching Assistant

Location: Bournemouth | Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience) | Start Date: Immediate | Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing? GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join schools in Bournemouth.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will provide one‑to‑one and small group support, encourage positive behaviour, and assist teachers in creating an inclusive and nurturing classroom environment. You will work closely with students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning linked to their emotional and social wellbeing.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with mental health and emotional needs in the classroom.
  • Assist teachers in managing behaviour and ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
  • Work on a one‑to‑one basis or with small groups to build confidence and resilience.
  • Encourage students to engage positively with their studies and peers.

Requirements
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or a degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with mental health needs.
  • The ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
  • Strong communication and empathy skills.
  • A genuine commitment to promoting mental health and wellbeing in education.
