Mental Health Support Worker - £25,325 - £27,378 per annum (Salaries vary depending on experience)

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, inclusive of bank holidays. Shifts include mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Service: Scrutton Close, Oxford.

What You'll Be Doing

Response is looking for an enthusiastic, caring person to join their dedicated team at Scrutton Close! The team focuses on supporting clients within their own accommodation, offering a high level of support to help clients achieve personal goals and increase independence.

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide person-centred support to residents with serious mental illnesses, including adults with primary diagnoses of psychotic illnesses, often with coexisting conditions such as physical health issues, neurodiversity, substance use, and cognitive impairments.

You will work proactively to promote independence and well-being, ensure safety through good housing management and risk assessment, support with tenancy maintenance, and help develop daily living skills.

Core Duties Include
  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and practical assistance with daily activities, including medication management, engaging in interests, education, accessing community resources, employment, and teaching life skills such as shopping, budgeting, using public transport, and cooking.
  • Foster a supportive environment that promotes independence.
  • Support and monitor physical and mental health, liaising with health services as needed.
  • Assist clients to attend appointments.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Support the Service Manager in achieving monthly service goals.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed to maintain safety for all.
  • Use a trauma-informed approach based on the 6 principles of trauma-informed care: Safety, Trust, Choice, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Cultural Consideration.
  • Engage with families, friends, and carers, involving them in support planning and providing information about services.

Essential Criteria
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development, including completing the Care Certificate
  • IT literacy with experience in MS Office
  • Good communication skills—written, verbal, and listening
  • Ability to provide non-judgemental, emotional, and practical support
  • Genuine interest in mental health and well-being, aligned with Response's mission
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity

Training will be provided on core therapeutic talk therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, and Mutual Aid.
