Job description

This role is in the Mental Health Liaison Team within the West Suffolk Hospital. The service offers mental health assessment to people attending the Emergency Department and those referred from medical wards, to understand a persons mental state, brief history and risk to provide suitable information, signposting and onward referral(s).

This is a core24 liaison service, providing a 24/7 service, 365 days per year and is age inclusive.

Main duties of the job
  • Assessment of mental state and risk
  • Providing advice and guidance across a wide spectrum of needs
  • Collaborative planning for onward support
  • Liaison with professionals involved in a persons care
  • Advice, guidance and teaching within the hospital
  • Supporting people with mental health needs coexisting alongside their medical needs

Job responsibilities

The post holder will undertake the planning and delivery of direct patient care with appropriate supervision, ensuring continuity of practice and working within a multi- disciplinary and multi-agency environment. Managing a caseload and the provision of Mental Health Care services to people with mental health care needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse, Occupational Therapist OR Social Worker with the relevant professional registration
  • Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor training (NMC registrants) or Practice Educator (AHP & Social Worker Registrants)
Experience
  • Able to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of mental health practice from previous experience
  • Experience of managing a caseload and the provision of Mental Health Care services to people with mental health care needs
  • Experience working in the specific area
