Overview

A friendly and inspiring specialist school in Newbury is looking for a Mental Health and Wellbeing Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students have a range of mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, learning difficulties and behavioural challenges. The school are therefore seeking someone who understands the students’ needs and is ready for a new challenge!

The SEMH School is situated in Newbury and is a full-time position starting ASAP. The school has an extremely well-regarded reputation within the local community and have been commended for their inclusive and nurturing learning environment. The staff are supportive and are looking forward to having an understanding and passionate Mental Health and Wellbeing Assistant join their team.

The students range from 11 to 18 and have significant developmental trauma and emotional needs. The successful Mental Health and Wellbeing Assistant will therefore need to be open-minded, resilient, and determined to help others. You will need to be flexible and be able to adapt your approach to suit the needs of every child. The perfect candidate will have previous experience with SEN children and/or adults, whether it be from a professional or personal stance. Graduates who have qualified in Psychology, Criminology or Counselling would also be perfect for this.

Responsibilities
  • Support children with mental health needs in school
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create a nurturing environment
  • Monitor and support students’ wellbeing and progress
  • Be flexible and adapt approaches to meet individual needs
  • Work as part of a team to support SEMH students

Location: Newbury. This is a full-time position starting ASAP. Salary: £85 - £95 per day.
