Job Summary

Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor an excellent opportunity for a mental health and wellbeing specialist to join Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service. You will deliver organisational wellbeing strategy, provide psychological interventions, and support staff wellbeing within a public sector environment.

Salry: £42,839 to £45,091 per annum. Benefits (see below). Location: Service Headquarters, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire (SA31). Job type: Full‑time, permanent. Working hours: 37 hours per week with flexible hours in line with the Service’s flexi‑time scheme.

Responsibilities
  • Wellbeing strategy delivery – lead and implement organisational mental health and wellbeing strategies.
  • Psychological interventions – provide assessments, counselling, and evidence‑based therapeutic support.
  • Confidential support – offer confidential advice and support to employees experiencing personal or work‑related challenges.
  • Trauma response – support trauma management processes and contribute to post‑incident care.
  • Training and awareness – design and deliver mental health awareness campaigns and training sessions.
  • Resilience planning – develop tailored resilience and intervention plans for individuals and teams.
  • Stakeholder collaboration – work closely with HR, health and safety and specialist support services.
  • Data and insight – analyse wellbeing trends and sickness‑absence data to inform initiatives.
  • Manager support – advise managers on wellbeing responsibilities and employee support.
  • Representation – represent the organisation at regional and national wellbeing forums.
Qualifications – Essential
  • A professional qualification in counselling, psychotherapy or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a mental‑health, wellbeing or welfare‑focused role.
  • Proven experience providing psychological or therapeutic support.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mental‑health issues and workplace wellbeing.
  • Experience supporting individuals following trauma or crisis situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Confidence in challenging stigma and promoting a positive mental‑health culture.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • A full driving licence or the ability to travel across multiple locations.
Qualifications – Desirable
  • Experience within a public sector or emergency services environment.
  • Knowledge of human resources, health and safety, or occupational health processes.
  • Experience contributing to policy development or wellbeing programme design.
