Job description

The National Trust is looking to appoint a key non-executive role in the governance of the charity. We're looking for an Independent Member to join the National Trust's Investment Committee (with a £1.5bn investment portfolio). This role is voluntary and in exchange for your skills and commitment, will mean you work side‑by‑side with talented professionals as you see the impact of your work on the direction and delivery of key strategy.

As a non‑executive volunteer, you'll be an active part of Europe's largest conservation charity. It's a unique opportunity and genuinely rewarding. Reasonable expenses are paid for these voluntary roles.

Member of the Investment Committee

This role is essential for the long‑term financial sustainability of the Trust and the furtherance of our climate strategy. The Investment Committee assists the National Trust in the establishment of its investment strategy, and the structuring and monitoring of its £1.5bn investment portfolio.

We're looking for an individual with significant investment expertise to provide independent, objective and challenging advice to the Board of Trustees. You'll have experience working with large organisations in a non‑executive capacity and while knowledge of the not‑for‑profit sector, charity accounting and the role of an Investment Committee is an advantage, it's not essential.

The appointment is for an initial term of three years and expected time commitment is approximately 10 days a year split between meetings and activities. This may be slightly higher in the first year.

Location

This role is voluntary and mostly remote, with a commitment to attend occasional meetings in person. For the Investment Committee, three meetings per year are usually at the Trust's Savoy Hill House offices (WC2R 0BU) and one to visit a Trust place to see the Trust's work in action.
