Job description

Carmichael are seeking a MEICA Project Manager to join the ream working on Water Projects based in East Sussex.
The Role

As a MEICA Project Manager, you will provide experienced leadership and demonstrable MEICA installation expertise to successfully deliver projects from inception through to completion. You will be responsible for managing projects in accordance with NEC contract requirements, ensuring the proactive identification and management of risk, robust change control, and effective management of commercial obligations.

You will be accountable for ensuring all works are delivered safely, to specification, on programme and within budget. A strong focus on achieving safety targets is essential, with a zero‑tolerance approach to unsafe working practices or behaviours. You will lead and actively engage project delivery and construction teams to promote a positive safety culture and drive successful project outcomes.

Working collaboratively with clients, subcontractors, designers and internal teams, you will plan, coordinate and manage MEICA project activities in compliance with NEC processes. This includes programme management, early warnings, compensation events, cost control and timely decision‑making to protect both Barhale’s and the client’s interests. You will ensure clear, accurate and timely communication of project information throughout the project lifecycle.

You will take ownership of customer satisfaction by maintaining strong client relationships and clear lines of communication, while ensuring quality is achieved at every stage of delivery. You will also support continuous improvement by driving efficiencies, managing technical and delivery interfaces, and ensuring lessons learned are captured and embedded.

Barhale’s projects vary significantly in value, complexity and duration, ranging from established frameworks to bespoke schemes and emergency works. These include, but are not limited to installation/upgrades of MCC’s, control and instrumentation, chemical dosing systems, and water and wastewater process plant. With project values typically ranging from £200k to £10m, you will play a key role in managing MEICA elements of work, ensuring effective NEC contract administration and delivering a consistently high standard of project management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proficient technical skills in field and sector, a proven leader of staff and operatives.
  • Managing and reporting operational and financial targets, programme management and supply chain management including procurement and performance.
  • Leadership in Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion and a team player, interfacing with the design team, construction team and all stakeholders.
  • The ability to select & manage innovative methods, use of materials & safe systems of work.
  • Effective communication with senior management, designers, consultants, clients, architects, and project teams on technical matters.
  • Provide quality outputs to time, quality, and cost, that enable programmes to achieve their outcomes.
  • Ensure that all staff on their projects develop their expertise to a world-class standard.
  • Management of contractors and key suppliers, particularly design ensuring quality of delivery and their committed resource requirements across the projects, ensuring quality of output and value for money.
  • Manage communication and engagement with project stakeholders, developing and maintaining key relationships and working in partnership to resolve problems to benefit operational policing.
  • Work with local project/change teams to ensure consistency of project delivery approach.
  • Build and sustain capacity and capability within the project team to deliver the programme workstream effectively and efficiently.
  • Be the key point of contact between the project and the programme.
  • Lead non-complex and complex projects, including set-up, management, and delivery, ensuring that the project delivers on time, cost and quality and meets all technical delivery processes, standards and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate the project its design & interdependencies, working closely with the project leads for the other projects within the programme.
  • Identify, manage, and resolve risks, track, and manage costs and benefits, provide reports as required, and ensure all outputs meet programme requirements.
  • Manage project related dependencies.
  • Identify resource requirements and undertake related activities.
  • Manage stakeholder communications and key messages for the project.
  • Manage project-level resources to ensure project outputs are delivered on time, cost and quality.

  • Experience (10 years+) operating as a Project Manager managing and delivering multiple projects of varying complexity & value.
  • Member of the APM, APM certified or equivalent (or experience-based)
  • SMSTS / SSSTS qualification.
  • CSCS card qualification.
  • First Aid qualification (optional).
