Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Medicines Optimisation and Clinical Pharmacy Manager to join our dynamic Pharmacy Team at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. 37.5 hours per week. This is a pivotal leadership role following the departure of the current post holder. As Technician Clinical Pharmacy Manager, you will provide operational and strategic leadership to the Medicines Optimisation Technicians and Ward Assistant Technical Officer teams, ensuring excellence in ward-based pharmaceutical care aligned with Trust objectives and values. You\'ll manage workforce planning including rota coordination, annual leave allocation, and maintaining optimal staffing levels to meet fluctuating service demands.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement training manuals, policies, and SOPs for the technical teams, contribute to pharmacy governance and wider departmental policy development.
  • Champion patient experience as the cornerstone of all ward-based technical services and promote the safe use of medicines throughout the Trust, including educating healthcare professionals on medications and the EPMA system.
  • Provide leadership of the clinical pharmacy technician service at ward level, ensuring medicines are stored safely and used appropriately in accordance with legislation and Trust policy.
  • Perform medicines optimisation activities including accurate assessment of patients\' own drugs, review stock lists in relation to usage and NICE guidelines, and contribute to cost improvement programmes.
  • Support and assist the Chief Pharmacist and Deputy Chief Pharmacist in the strategic and operational management and development of the pharmacy department.
  • Be the direct line manager for the Medicines Optimisation Technician Team and ward-based Assistant Technical Officer Team, responsible for workload allocation, performance management, recruitment and selection, career development, and sickness absence management.
  • Make critical decisions on ward cover at short notice, manage annual leave and rotas via Health Roster, and ensure accurate recording of shifts and payments including bank holidays and overtime.
  • Ensure all team members are fully trained and competent through coordination with the Education & Training Team, undertake yearly PDRs in line with Trust guidelines, and organise tailored training plans including mentorship.
  • Be conversant with Trust HR policies, conduct sickness absence meetings, disciplinary matters, and Occupational Health referrals.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Knowledge: Essential – To undertake Continuing Professional Development; Specialist knowledge acquired through training and experience.
  • Qualifications: Essential – BTEC and/or NVQ 3 in Pharmaceutical sciences; Higher level Clinical Pharmacy qualification (e.g., BTEC, NVQ level 4 or equivalent); IT training (MS Office); To be registered with the GPhC; Nationally recognised accuracy checking technician qualification; Qualification in management or extensive experience of managing and leading teams.
  • Desirable – Qualified NVQ assessor.
  • Experience: Essential – Experience of managing teams; Experience of HR processes (recruitment, performance management, employee wellbeing and managing attendance).
