Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Ilford is seeking a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (Rotational) for a Band 4/5 position. The role involves providing patient-facing clinical services and participating in medicines optimisation across inpatient wards and community teams. This permanent role offers a salary range of £27,485 to £37,796 per annum plus a High Cost Area Supplement.

Job description

This role is a Band 4 developmental position with progression to Band 5 upon meeting agreed competencies within a set period. If competencies are met at the outset, the post may be offered at Band 5.

The role supports patient‑centred care by providing patient‑facing clinical services across inpatient wards and community teams, participating in medicines optimisation and ward‑based services.

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London

This post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,714 to maximum £5,941 per annum, pro‑rata for part‑time).

Qualifications
  • BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences / NVQ Level 3 or GPhC accredited or equivalent
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post‑qualification experience of ward‑based medicines optimisation in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Experience of working as a Practice Supervisor
  • Experience of staff supervision and management and appraisal
  • Accreditation in Medicines Management (AIMM)/ Medicines Optimisation – or equivalent
  • To be an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) or working towards it
  • Membership of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians (APTUK) and/or The College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP)
  • Experience of working as an Educational Supervisor
  • Experience of writing and reviewing policies and procedures
  • Ability to carry out assessments and patient observations in key specialist clinical areas of competence and within scope of practice
  • Willing to undertake the Accredited Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) programme
Demonstration of Trust Values

Knowledge
  • Experience of working with stock control software (e.g., Well Sky / JAC)
  • Awareness of NHS priorities
  • Knowledge of dispensing and electronic Patient Record System
  • Understanding of CQC domains and compliance, particularly aspects relating to patient engagement, experience and safety
Experience
  • Post‑qualification experience of ward‑based medicines optimisation in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Experience of staff supervision and management and appraisal
  • Experience in labelling and dispensing proficiency
  • At least 2 years post‑qualification experience within inpatient / community settings
