Job description

The Medical Workforce Service provides advice and support on all HR & Workforce aspects in the management of medical staff within the Trust. This includes doctors in their first year of training to consultant level.

Under the guidance of the Medical Workforce Officer, this role will specialise in Resident and Locally Employed Doctors rotas and all doctors medical e-rostering, including providing specialist advice on rota analysis and management; supporting specialties in writing their resident doctor rotas; working with the Medical Workforce Officer to produce work schedules and being the first point of contact for e-rostering queries.

Working within a supportive team environment, the role is varied and busy.

  • Work with specialties to design compliant Resident Doctor rotas in line with the Terms and Conditions of Service for NHS Doctors and Dentists in Training (England) 2016), liaising with stakeholders to ensure efficient, cost-effective rota delivery. Act as central coordinator and main contact for rota changes, swaps, and locum shifts, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Become an expert user and administrator for Allocate and Medical E-Rostering, with in-depth knowledge of working hours rules, LTFT rotas, and Medical HR queries. Support management teams and Lead Clinicians in understanding contractual implications on service delivery and mitigating related risks.
  • Provide Generic Work Schedules in collaboration with Postgraduate Medical Education, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Liaise with Payroll on pay issues and support exception reporting processes.
  • Assist in implementing and optimising the E-Rostering system across the Trust, maintaining accurate rotas, managing access, resolving issues, supporting audits, and preparing reports.
  • Provide reports, statistics, and administrative support for the Medical Workforce Service, including relocation claims and continuous improvement of databases and processes.
