Medical Secretary Integrated Medicine

Are you an organised, compassionate, and detail-oriented individual looking to support a dynamic clinical team? We are seeking a Medical Secretary to join our Integrated Medicine Team, providing essential administrative support to ensure the smooth running of patient care services.

Main duties of the job

The principle accountabilities of this post are:

  • Plan own day to day tasks and duties
  • Undertake routine typing and audio typing of clinical correspondence
  • Prioritise results, organise clinical activity and patient admissions
  • Liaise with patients, GP's and other Health Boards/Trusts to arrange ongoing treatment and care.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This does not mean it is essential; while the candidate does not need to have Welsh skills, we will consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This is not 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Person Specification
Qualifications
  • RSA/OCR Level III or equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience. Good standard of education. Comprehensive knowledge of medical/surgical terminology.
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) or similar qualification. Knowledge of University Health Board procedures. Medical Secretary qualification eg. AMSPAR.
Experience
  • Previous experience in a secretarial role. Experience of working in a busy environment. Ability to prioritise and manage own workload. Knowledge of the Welsh PAS (Myrddin) system.
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment. Experience of supervising staff.
Aptitude and Abilities
  • Excellent keyboard and audio typing skills. Excellent communication and telephone skills. Able to deal with patients and relatives in a sympathetic manner. Ability to deal with staff at all levels. Confidentiality and diplomacy. Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Setting up office systems. Ability to take shorthand. Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Leve 3 and above.
