A leading NHS Trust in Wythenshawe is seeking a Medical Secretary/Administrator for the Palliative Care Team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative support, manage queries, and assist with clinical documentation. Candidates should possess excellent communication and organizational skills along with substantial secretarial experience, preferably within the NHS. This part-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from £24,937 to £26,598 per annum (pro-rata).

Medical Secretary/Administrator - Palliative Care

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Palliative Care Team as a Medical Secretary/Administrator.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisation skills, strong typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology to ensure provision of a high quality and efficient administrative/secretarial service to the palliative medicine consultants and the clinical nurse specialist team.

You must have good attention to detail together with the ability to prioritise your own workload to meet deadlines. Duties will include dealing with telephone enquiries, letters, email, diaries, chasing deadlines, collation of information/results for reports and typing of clinic letters.

You should have previous secretarial experience as well as being flexible and able to work as part of a team. In return we will provide a comprehensive induction with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide medical transcription and administrative support on attachment to clinical teams; guided by standard operating procedures.

  • Provide administration support to the Palliative Care Team as required
  • Use Electronic systems i.e. HIVE, Health Roster
  • Manage telephone and e-mail queries
  • Organises meetings/events/diaries for others, including agendasetting, taking minutes and follow up actions
  • Booking clinician appointments and clinics. Proofreading clinic letters to patients, GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee following clinic attendance.
  • Place orders, manage deliveries and replenish stock cupboards
  • Maintain spreadsheets and electronic documents
  • Prioritise workload, work without direct supervision
  • Reserve meeting/clinical rooms
  • Complete regular audits and stock checks
  • Attend meetings and training as required
  • Undertake routine office duties including, photocopying, scanning and uploading correspondence and results and maintenance of records when required.
  • Circulate information to staff as directed by the management team, ensuring distribution lists are kept up to date
