Redlam Surgery is looking to recruit a highly organised and efficient Medical Secretary to assist our team in delivering patient care and administrative services. In this position there will be the requirement to deliver a variety of administrative duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of confidentiality and office processes. The candidatate working hours will be Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm
Duties will include liaising with patients, staff and external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring all enquiries and queries are processed efficiently.
Coordinating medical referrals on the E Referral System, reports, correspondence, and other documents as required by the practice.
Other secretarial / administrative tasks as delegated
In the role you will be expected to manage a variety of administrative duties within the practice, ensuring seamless daily operations, supporting the wider clinical team, and engaging with patients. The ideal candidate will have excellent IT and communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of confidentiality and office procedures.
We are a small GP Practice with a list size of 4400 patients. We have 3 GP Partners, 1 Practice Nurse, 2 Healthcare Assistants along with number of ARRS roles aswell as being a training practice for Medical Students and Foundation Doctors.

Job Summary:
To provide administrative support and services to all members of the Practice Team.
Job Responsibilities
The following are the core requirements of the MedicalSecretary. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks;this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
To perform all clerical and administrative duties
To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. Thisincludes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals.
Liaising with external agencies such as hospital and community services
Processing referrals using the electronic referral system (ESR)
To retrieve medical records and assist in the completion of medical/insurance reports.
Respond as required to incoming Private Medical work requests, keeping a record of and liaising with the GP partners for the timely completion of the work and ensuring payment.
Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records.
Inputting data into the patients healthcare record as necessary.
To receive and initiate outgoing telephone calls, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
Supporting all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested
To provide cover for members of the secretarial team at our other surgeries during periods of sickness and annual leave.
Person Specification
Qualifications
GCSE Mathematics and English (C or above)
Skills
Medical Secretary experience in a health case setting
Understanding of Medical Terminology
Detailed Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook
Ability to prioritise and organise workload
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Use of EMIS Web
