Job description

To provide efficient and effective medical secretarial support to Consultants and Junior Medical Staff and assist in the organisation of the Consultant's workload. The post holder will be expected to act on their initiative and provide cross-cover/support for other secretaries as necessary to facilitate an effective service function.

Responsibilities
  • Minute taking
  • Planning appointments and managing diaries
  • Prioritising workload to maintain deadlines
  • Filing and accurate management of patient records
  • Managing phone calls and liaising between services
  • Producing accurate, high-quality medical correspondence, often of a distressing and emotional nature, including letters, Mental Health Act reports, memoranda, and other documents, many of which are non-routine, using audio/copying, typing, and word processing systems
  • Supporting a day-to-day secretarial needs for inpatient Consultant psychiatrist and junior colleagues
  • Communicating at all levels with patients, relatives, medical colleagues and allied health professionals whilst maintaining a high standard of service to meet the needs of the patient
