Medical Secretary

Location: Fareham Health Centre, 2nd Floor, Osborn Road, Fareham, PO16 7ER

Hours: 37 hours per week Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm

Trust Location: Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust

Role type: Temporary for 2 months with possibility of extension

What you'll be responsible for:
  • Provide comprehensive administration and secretarial services to the Community Mental Health Team. The post holder will be responsible for the organisation of their own workload and delegated decisions/actions, as deemed appropriate by the Administration Manager/ CMHT Manager.
  • Produce from audio and handwritten notes, word processed letters and reports within a timely manner, and to a high standard of presentation and accuracy using appropriate Trust templates, in line with Trust guidelines. Some letters and reports may contain distressing content.
  • Book assessments and outpatient appointments for service users after liaising with relevant staff, including Team Manager, Team Leader, Consultants, Clinical Staff and Administration Manager within CMHT.
  • Provide comprehensive and efficient secretarial support to the Consultant Psychiatrist and wider team; this will include handling all aspects of correspondence in a polite and professional manner, processing referrals and handling telephone enquiries.
  • Organising meetings and taking minutes as necessary, typing, and distributing to those appropriate.
  • This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.

  1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
  2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
  3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

  • Administration experience
  • Medical Secretary experience (desirable)
  • NHS experience (desirable)
  • Audio typing experience (essential)
  • Competent with Microsoft office programmes
