Job description

The North Wales Medical Physics Department encompasses a wide range of highly specialised scientific and technical services which are provided to hospitals and clinics across beautiful North Wales. The department is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to carry out, and support, a range of physiological measurements, equipment calibration and other technical duties across hospitals and clinics in North Wales.

You will need to have qualifications or equivalent experience at Level 4, direct patient contact experience, and knowledge and skills in the use of various IT packages. We are looking for a team player who is a quick leaner with a good attention to detail, can work flexibly and has the ability to meet the travel requirements of the post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out skilled and varied work mainly in the Clinical Engineering Section and may also rarely undertake some tasks in the Radioisotope Section. Main areas of work include:

  • Carrying out Doppler ultrasound measurements unsupervised on patients in out-patient and ward settings.
  • Assisting with the provision of a wide range of clinical engineering specialist services, both diagnostic patient testing and equipment management, at various sites throughout North Wales, occasionally working unsupervised to well-defined local protocols and national standards.
  • Assisting with radioisotope measurement and radioisotope equipment testing.
  • Assisting the RPA with some elements of radiation protection including environmental radioactive contamination surveys
  • Operation of specialised test equipment and evaluation and analysis of results using computers.

Qualifications

  • Able to work without direct supervision (with advice generally available), sometimes alone, and on remote sites.
  • Able to prioritise and manage own work with a flexible approach
  • Good verbal and written skills in communicating with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and skills in using databases
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of patient procedures and practices (eg confidentiality, consent, clinical governance)
  • Working knowledge of physiological measurement techniques.
  • Doppler ultrasound for patient testing: vascular assessments in lower limbs
