Do you have experience providing clerical support in a medical office or healthcare environment and have a good command of medical terminology? We have an opportunity for a medical office assistant to work in the Visiting Specialist Clinic. You'll perform a variety of administrative duties to support the Visiting Specialist Clinic, which offers a range of specialist services to ensure that injured workers are expeditiously assessed and receive the appropriate treatments or service as determined by a specialist. This is a temporary opportunity for 12 months.

How you'll make a difference: You'll build and empower collaborative partnerships that enable resources for workers, employers, health care providers, and other key stakeholders.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

What you'll do
  • Provide reception services by checking in injured worker (patients) upon arrival, answering or routing telephone calls and providing information on appointments, or claims inquiries
  • Intake incoming referrals and update in referral system to keep detailed records of referred patients
  • Schedule and confirm patient medical appointments
  • Fill out and process a variety of electronic and paper-based correspondence, forms, reports, etc.; much of which involves medical terminology
  • Fax requisitions or requests for medical imaging (e.g. x-rays), injections, and lab tests, and medical reports
  • Order supplies and maintain the examination rooms with supplies, etc.
  • Assist with physician billing.
  • Consistently model the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

Your background and experience

  • Completion of grade 12
  • Able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute
  • Use knowledge of medical terminology and medical spelling
