Job Overview

Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services is a partnership between Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. As the largest NHS‑led pathology network in the UK, we are seeking motivated applicants for a Medical Laboratory Assistant position at Wexham Park Hospital in the Blood Sciences department (Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion). The role supports a‑quality diagnostic service with comprehensive training and a collaborative team environment.

Main Duties
  • Loading and unloading patient samples onto laboratory analysers, ensuring correct handling, identification, and traceability.
  • Performing routine maintenance on laboratory analysers, including cleaning, calibration checks, and basic quality control procedures.
  • Assisting with manual assay procedures under the supervision of Biomedical Scientists, following standard operating procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining adequate stock levels of laboratory consumables and ensuring timely replenishment.
  • Preparing samples, disposing of waste correctly, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, and complying with health and safety standards.
  • Supporting the department with administrative responsibilities such as data entry, record management, and routine telephone enquiries.

    The post holder works closely with the Team Leader and Biomedical Scientist staff to support the delivery of a high‑quality technical service in line with UKAS and ISO 15189:2022 standards, developing and maintaining effective working relationships across all grades to ensure efficient operation of the service.
