Job summary

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant (Specimen Reception) based at Southport Hospital. The role is NHS AfC Band 2, permanent, with 37.5 hours per week (plus 30 hours options) and shifts including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

You'll receive and log samples, enter data into Telepath/Laboratory Information System, perform pre-analytical processing and support biomedical staff while delivering accurate results and patient care

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE level in English and Maths or equivalent qualification/experience
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Previous NHS experience desirable
• Ability to work across shifts including evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

• Receive and barcode samples and requests
• Enter patient and sample details into the Laboratory Information System
• Perform pre-analytical processing for analysis
• Assist in day-to-day pathology duties and communicate with staff and patients
• Rotate across shifts including nights as required
