Job summary

A prominent healthcare organization in Wigan is seeking a Medical Engineering Technician to manage the maintenance and repair of medical equipment. The role involves acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and minor repairs of equipment across services. Applicants should have an HNC in electrical/electronic engineering and experience in maintenance, ideally within healthcare. This is a permanent position with a flexible 37.5 hours per week requirement, demanding a proactive approach and effective communication skills.

Qualifications

  • HNC in electrical/electronic engineering.
  • Experience in electrical/electronic maintenance, preferably in healthcare.

  • Ensuring efficient use of financial resources.

Medical Engineering Technician

An exciting new vacancy has arisen for a Medical Engineering Technician. The Medical Electronics Department will manage the maintenance and repair of all medical equipment across WWL’s services. As a brand‑new service, the successful applicant will work with minimum supervision, demonstrating a proactive, enthusiastic approach to introduce best‑practice solutions from the outset.

Overview

The post is permanent, 37.5 hours per week, with a flexible approach required for occasional work outside normal clinic hours. The role involves travelling across the Wigan & Leigh area in a company vehicle.

Responsibilities
  • Acceptance testing of new equipment
  • Minor repairs and planned preventative maintenance
  • Cleaning/decontamination of equipment (advantage)
  • Acceptance testing and troubleshooting of respiratory equipment for WWL sleep services
  • Training and progression within the Trust’s engineering services
  • Planning and executing equipment maintenance across clinical areas
  • Communicating with equipment users and external suppliers to arrange access
  • Ensuring efficient use of financial resources within the department
  • Performing any other tasks required for effective operation of the department
Qualifications and Requirements
  • HNC in electrical/electronic engineering
  • Experience in electrical/electronic maintenance, preferably in healthcare
  • Experience with engineering databases (distinct advantage)
  • Valid driving licence; reasonable adjustments will be considered for disability holders
