Job summary

RTI Health Solutions is seeking a publications editor to join our Medical Communications group in the UK. The role involves editing a range of scientific documents, ensuring adherence to style guides, and collaborating with writers, project managers, and designers across offices.

Office-based in Manchester or remote from elsewhere in the UK, you will contribute to manuscripts, posters, abstracts, and dossiers, using InDesign and EndNote while maintaining rigorous quality standards.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Liberal Arts, English, Communications, or Journalism.
  • Minimum of 5 years editing experience (medical, scientific, or medical communications editing experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of general grammar and punctuation rules.
  • Proficient in using style guides, particularly the AMA Manual of Style.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience editing publications (e.g., manuscripts, posters, conference abstracts) preferred.
  • Experience with EndNote reference management software and Adobe InDesign preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors and team members.
  • Adept at supporting a diverse group of internal customers and adapting working style to suit various personalities and needs.
  • Strong communication skills, including providing diplomatic and constructive feedback to writers, both written and spoken.
  • Skilled at prioritising workload and making strategic decisions when faced with competing needs.
  • Willing to seek support from the team when necessary

Responsibilities

  • Editing RTI-HS deliverables for grammar, spelling, style, and consistency, according to the appropriate style guide and ensuring a high-quality standard.
  • Setting or following publications style and specifications using company’s, client’s, or journal’s publication style, editorial policy, and publishing specification.
  • Collaborating with contributors, writers, clients, project managers, editors, and designers.
  • Playing a key role in producing high-quality, impactful documents and contributing to the expanding field of medical communications as the team grows.
  • Ensuring that graphical representation of data is clearly expressed and visuals are well balanced.
  • Establishing and managing complex schedules or closely following and engaging with existing production schedules, taking proactive measures to ensure timeliness.
  • Creating PDFs and revising and editing text in InDesign.
  • Formatting complex documents according to RTI-HS or client-provided Word templates.
  • Reviewing large-scale organisation of documents and their overall flow

Are you a talented medical editor with great attention for detail who is looking for a new challenge? Do you enjoy a mix of collaborative and independent work? Our Medical Communications group is seeking a publications editor with scientific and/or medical communications editing experience to join our growing team—and you might be just the right person! You will join a group of expert medical editors, writers, graphic designers, and scientific communication strategists working together to deliver exceptional content to our clients. In this role, you will collaborate with research staff and other members of the Medical Communications team on a broad range of RTI-HS deliverables, including manuscripts, posters, conference abstracts, presentation materials, literature review reports, economic modelling reports, slide sets, dossiers, and protocols.

This position may be office based in Manchester or remote from elsewhere in UK.

What You'll Do
