Job description

Our Client, a Medical Center company, is looking for a Medical Assistant for their Brighton, MA location.

Responsibilities
  • Function as a member of a team and complete all daily tasks to ensure smooth day to day operations in a busy Urology practice.
  • Answering telephones
  • Greeting patients
  • Updating and filing patients' medical records
  • Filling out insurance forms
  • Handling (scanning) correspondence, faxes, and other documents
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Billing and coding for procedures (performed by MA)
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Handling billing and bookkeeping
  • Maintaining all clinic equipment and logs (Environmental, Sterilization, Equipment Maintenance, Medication Samples, etc.)
  • Arrange examining room instruments and equipment
  • Taking medical histories, recording vital signs (including height & weight), and entering these into the electronic medical record
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients (As directed by a physician or physician assistant)
  • Preparing patients for examination, and assisting physician with examinations and procedures
  • Drawing blood
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and performing basic laboratory tests (Urinalysis, PSA & Testosterone, etc.)
  • Preparing patients for, and performing digital image/studies (bladder scan, Uroflow, PTNS, etc.)
  • Disposing of contaminated supplies
  • Sterilizing medical instruments
  • Instructing patients about medications and special diets (As directed by a physician or physician assistant)
  • Preparing and administering medications, including giving injections (As directed by a physician or physician assistant)
  • Authorizing drug refills as directed by a provider. Instructing patients about medications and special diets (As directed by a physician or physician assistant)
  • Calling in prescriptions to a pharmacy (As directed by a physician or physician assistant)
  • Removing sutures, and changing dressings
  • Insert, remove, or replace catheters
  • Orders supplies, meds and equipment, and maintains inventory and logs for these
  • Follow up to ensure that all labs/DI results are received in a timely fashion
  • Keeping waiting and examining rooms stocked, neat and clean
  • Take vitals when necessary
  • Prepares the daily schedules for the office, pulls and prepares the patient charts, ensuring that the proper chart has been selected and the appropriate paperwork has been attached to the chart (i.e., encounter form, etc.)
  • Room placement
  • Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy info, prescription list, etc. into EMR for physical
  • Supply ordering
  • Stocking of rooms
  • Ordering tests, obtaining prior authorizations
  • Requesting and obtaining referrals for patient visits and surgery
  • Front desk support - phone triage, appointment scheduling and co-pay collection
Requirements
  • Prior urologic experience is plus.
  • Preferred Experience: Clinical hospital settings. Hands on position, knowledge of EPIC.
  • Experience with electronic medical record strongly preferred (Athena/ECW a plus)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Education from approved medical assistant program or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
