Mediation & Litigation Assistant

The Role

As a Mediation & Litigation Assistant, you will provide essential administrative and client support across both mediation and litigation matters. You will be a key first point of contact for clients, guiding them with empathy and professionalism through the early stages of their legal journey.

Your responsibilities as a Mediation & Litigation Assistant will include:

  • Handling enquiries and referrals, providing a warm and professional first impression of the team
  • Explaining the mediation process and answering client questions, often over the phone
  • Coordinating appointments, sending correspondence, and managing logistics.
  • Carrying out conflict checks, preparing quotations, and taking initial instructions.
  • Supporting client communication throughout mediation.
  • Assisting with Legal Aid assessments and related administration.
  • Setting up, maintaining, and closing electronic legal files to LEXCEL standards.
  • Conducting research and gathering information under supervision.
  • Drafting letters and documents, supporting billing processes, and assisting with audits.
  • Helping improve internal processes and supporting the training of new colleagues.

No two days will be the same. This role combines client‑facing interactions, varied administrative work, and valuable exposure to both mediation and litigation practices.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive and committed to delivering an exceptional service.

Key skills and experience
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (minimum).
  • Strong administrative skills and confidence using MS Office.
  • Experience using case management systems (an advantage).
  • Resilience, excellent organisation, and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a supportive team.
  • A genuine interest in family law, dispute resolution, or mediation.
  • Previous legal or professional office experience (preferred).
