Job summary

Campaign is seeking a Media Editor to lead UK coverage of the commercial media industry across digital, audio, video and live platforms. The role delivers high-quality journalism, develops editorial strategy and reports to the Deputy Editor.

You will line manage the Deputy Media Editor and work to grow Campaign's audiences, with a focus on audience insight and new formats for content. Hybrid role based in Twickenham, Greater London.

Hybrid: 3 days per week in the office, 2 days working remotely

Employment: Permanent, full-time

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum

The Role
  • The Media Editor will lead Campaign's coverage of the UK commercial media industry across digital, audio, video and live platforms, delivering high-quality journalism and insight that informs and engages Campaign's audiences.

  • The role will develop and deliver a strong editorial strategy for media coverage, building Campaign's reputation as a trusted source of insight for media owners, agencies and technology platforms.

  • The Media Editor will line manage the Deputy Media Editor, supporting their career and editorial development.
  • Through agenda-setting journalism, analysis and multimedia content, the role will support audience growth and strengthen Campaign's position as the leading voice for the media industry.

Key Responsibilities
Editorial Strategy & Content Development
  • Lead Campaign's media coverage across digital, audio, video and live platforms, delivering high-quality journalism that informs and engages audiences.

  • Write news, analysis, features and opinion content covering key developments, trends and challenges across the commercial media industry.

  • Commission stories for Campaign's daily Media bulletin.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media owners, agencies, and technology platforms to identify exclusive stories and emerging opportunities.

  • Use audience insight, analytics and market intelligence to shape content strategy.

  • Develop ideas for new editorial formats, products and premium content propositions that serve the media community.

Audience Growth & Multimedia
  • Lead the development and performance of Campaign's media channels, including the daily media bulletin and other audience-focused content initiatives.

  • Support the planning and execution of The Campaign Podcast.

  • Monitor audience performance and use data and feedback to improve content engagement and reach.

Industry Engagement, Events & Commercial Collaboration
  • Represent Campaign within the media industry, building strong relationships with senior stakeholders, contributors and partners.

  • Play a leading editorial role in Campaign's media-focused live events, working closely with Haymarket's Events, Awards, Commercial and Content Labs teams.

  • Identify opportunities for new products, events and industry initiatives that support audience growth and business objectives.

  • Collaborate with commercial teams to support sponsored content, events and partnerships while maintaining editorial independence and integrity.

Key Relationships

The Media Editor works closely with the Editor, Deputy Editor, News Editor and wider Campaign team to deliver an engaging editorial strategy that drives audience growth. They also collaborate with Haymarket's Events, Commercial, Content Labs, Studio and Audience teams and maintain strong relationships with media leaders, contributors and industry partners.

  • Strong understanding of the commercial media industry, including media owners, agencies, technology platforms and key market developments.

  • Knowledge of digital publishing, multimedia formats and evolving audience behaviours across online, audio and video platforms.

  • Understanding of editorial standards, media law and maintaining journalistic integrity.

  • Awareness of audience analytics, content performance metrics and how they can inform editorial decisions.

  • Understanding of the relationship between editorial, commercial, events and audience teams within a B2B media environment.

Skills
  • Excellent writing and editorial judgement skills, with the ability to produce accurate, engaging journalism to tight deadlines.

  • Strong ability to generate original story ideas, develop exclusive content and provide insight into complex industry developments.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to build trusted contacts across the media industry.

  • Confident presenter and communicator, with the ability to host podcasts, interview contributors and represent Campaign at events.

  • Ability to use audience insight, analytics and market knowledge to shape content strategy.

  • Creative and innovative approach to developing new content formats, products and audience propositions.

Experience
  • Significant experience as a journalist, reporter or editor within a respected publication, ideally covering media, advertising, marketing or related industries.

  • Proven experience producing and commissioning high-quality journalism across digital and multimedia platforms.

  • Strong track record of developing industry contacts and generating exclusive stories and insights.

  • Experience appearing on podcasts, video content or other multimedia formats.

  • Experience representing a publication at industry events, conferences or panels.

  • Experience collaborating with commercial teams and external partners while maintaining editorial standards.
