Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a maintenance technician with a background in mechanical work within building services. The role focuses on safe operation and repair of a wide range of plant and equipment across the Trust's facilities, ensuring minimal downtime and compliant practices.

You will interpret drawings, work under supervision and as part of a team, with training provided to cover diverse plant installations and NHS standards.

Qualifications

  • NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant trade.
  • Health and safety qualifications (IOSH or CSCS) and related modules are desirable.
  • Experience with mechanical work in building maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Experience in NHS hospital environment is desirable.
  • Installation/maintenance experience in industrial, domestic or commercial settings.

  • NVQ 3, completed recognised apprenticeship in relevant base trade OR relevant experience within trade specialism
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Safety Qualifications or modules of technical qualifications (IOSH One Day Working Safely, CSCS Gold card). City and Guilds 2391/4/5 Inspection & Testing
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Background of mechanical work in the building industry/maintenance work.
  • A clear understanding of health and safety procedures in theory and practical application.
Desirable criteria
  • signifcant experience post apprenticeship.
  • Relevant experience of NHS hospital environment.
  • Installation and/or maintenance experience in an industrial or domestic or commercial setting.
  • PLC knowledge and experience
Skills
Essential criteria
  • Ability to interpret & work from drawings & specifications.
  • Demonstrable ability to interpret & fault find on a diverse range of complex mechanical/electrical systems and installations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others, mainly verbally & in writing.
