Job summary

Baker Hughes in Nailsea is seeking a Mechanical Technician to support assembly, testing, and delivery of hydraulic control units and related equipment. You will read engineering drawings and follow work instructions to ensure products meet high standards of quality, safety, and performance.

This full-time workshop-based role offers opportunities to work with engineering and manufacturing teams, participate in continuous improvement, and develop new technical skills in a safety‑focused

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, maintenance, or related engineering environment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, mechanical equipment, or industrial products.
  • Experience using hand tools, measuring equipment, and standard workshop practices.
  • Strong commitment to quality, safety and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble hydraulic systems, control units, and mechanical components.
  • Build and test valves and associated products to required specifications.
  • Perform flushing, pressure testing, and inspection activities.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Use hand tools, measuring equipment, and assembly tools safely and effectively.
  • Identify and report quality issues in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and additional workshop activities as required.

As a Mechanical Technician, you will support the assembly, testing, and delivery of hydraulic control units and related equipment. Working from engineering drawings and work instructions, you will ensure products are built to the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.
As a Mechanical Technician, you will:

  • Assemble hydraulic systems, control units, and mechanical components.
  • Build and test valves and associated products to required specifications.
  • Perform flushing, pressure testing, and inspection activities.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Use hand tools, measuring equipment, and assembly tools safely and effectively.

Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have a recognized qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance, or a related technical discipline OR equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Have experience working in a manufacturing, workshop, production, maintenance, or assembly environment.
  • Have experience supporting testing, inspection, or commissioning activities (preferred).
  • Have knowledge of hydraulic systems and mechanical assembly processes (preferred).
