Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Technical Director for Data Centres to lead a growing team and own the mechanical delivery strategy for DC projects across the UK/EMEA. The role focuses on project delivery, client management and winning new work in a fast‑growing market.

You will oversee engineering excellence, develop teams, and ensure delivery quality and timelines while maintaining strong client relationships and governance across projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong background delivering mechanical projects in Data Centres and Mission Critical Environments.
  • Proven DC project leadership in UK and ideally across EMEA.
  • Experience in client engagement and winning work.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical design, engineering practices and client interfacing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Data Centre team across the region.
  • Provide management and engineering leadership for DC mechanical delivery.
  • Ensure projects deliver required outcomes and meet client needs.
  • Define deliverables, schedules, resources; set standards and quality guidelines.
  • Oversee EMEA DC sector technical delivery strategy and knowledge transfer.
  • Lead Work Winning and Business Development with a strong client pipeline.
  • Provide programme management and commercial oversight for major projects.
  • Monitor risks and KPIs; drive issue resolution.
  • Ensure seamless, on-time mechanical delivery across the region.
  • Build strong client partnerships and understand business needs.

Working in our Data Centres Market Sector, you will be an ambassador in the data centre community externally across EMEA and internally within AECOM Europe and globally. With experience in technical delivery of data centre projects for tech firms and a strong track record in tech firm business development you will lead a team of technical experts across the UK and work closely with our global colleagues in the Data Centre sector.

Due to the continued successful growth and expansion of our Technology / Data Centre Sector, we are looking for an experienced leader, Mechanical Director with a proven track record in project delivery, work winning, client management and team development. This role will be pivotal in maintaining and growing the position of AECOM as an established player in the Hyperscale and Co-location segments of the Data Centre market both in EMEA and Globally. Being a major contributor to Thought Leadership and the strategic objectives of the Sector.

Here's what you'll do:
  • Lead and develop the growing and expanding Data Centre team
  • Provide management, leadership and a strong grounding in engineering & technical skills in the Data centre sector.
  • Ensure projects achieve their required results, deliverables are full developed and meet the needs our all our diverse clients
  • Determine project deliverables, objectives and requirements, organise schedules, manage teams and resources and develop Standards, Quality and guidelines for the Data Centre Mechanical sector
  • Provide a full oversight into our EMEA DC Sector technical delivery strategy to include: setting standards, benchmarks mentoring and coaching the team, transference of skills and knowledge
  • Be involved in Work Winning and Business Development – leveraging a strong pipeline of opportunities with existing and new clients to provide MEP solutions within the DC Sector
  • Provide programme management expertise and commercial oversight for major projects to ensure integrated teams' delivery commitments are met
  • Monitorproject risk and risk mitigation strategy project KPIs and assists in resolution of issues or deviations
  • Provide a seamless, consistent, co-ordinated and on time delivery of all Mechanical services across the region
  • Fully partner with our clients to fully understand their business, organisation structure and culture, being proactive to their needs and market changes.
  • Strong career background in the delivery of Mechanical project work across Data Centres and Mission Critical Environments.
  • Proven experience of leading DC project work streams in UK & preferably across EMEA.
  • Demonstrable client facing and work winning experience.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent team leadership and development capability.
  • Detailed Knowledge of Mechanical design, engineering practices, techniques and procedures for Data Centres and how it ultimately interfaces with the client.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience in managing project financials.
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally through excellent written and verbal skills
  • A good financial understanding of projects and the requirements needed to ensure the success of a Project
Qualifications
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with CIBSE or equivalent institute.
