Job summary

NTT Global Data Centers in London is seeking a skilled Mechanical (HVAC & Chillers) Shift Engineer to support operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of HVAC and chilled water systems across critical data center infrastructure.

You will work a 12-hour continental shift pattern on a 24/7 rota, delivering planned and reactive maintenance to chillers, AHUs, FCUs, cooling towers, pumps and valves, while ensuring safety, compliance with BS standards, and timely completion of PPMs

Qualifications

• Several years of experience working with HVAC and chiller systems in commercial, industrial, or data center environments.
• Knowledge of chillers (air-cooled and water-cooled), chilled water systems, cooling towers, AHUs/FCUs and pumps.
• Experience in fault finding, maintenance planning, and performance optimization.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
• F-Gas certification or relevant HVAC qualifications.

• Accurately recording and reporting maintenance activity to ensure system updates
• Carrying out operational and maintenance activities safely and to schedule
• Sharing oversight to ensure compliance with SLAs and risk controls
• Managing inspection & testing programmes and high voltage duties as required
• Supervising maintenance activities to ensure safe, compliant work
• Supporting shift teams to maintain critical data center services
• Ensuring site sign-off and proper documentation for works

Job description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical (HVAC & Chillers) Shift Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of HVAC and chilled water systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of chillers, cooling systems, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, and associated mechanical infrastructure while maintaining compliance with safety and industry standards.

As one of the Shift Engineers, you’ll be working a 12hr continental shift pattern over a 24/7 rota.

What will you do?

• Providing a customer focused service and a high standard of planned preventative and reactive maintenance
• Proactively involved in the on-going technical evaluation of all plant and equipment, suggestion of improvements where appropriate
• Accurately recording and reporting of maintenance activity to ensure Key Source System is correctly updated
• Carrying out operational and maintenance activities as directed, ensuring work is executed in a safe and suitable manner
• Working as directed to ensure timely completion of PPM’s and reactive work to SLA’s
• Being the High Voltage Authorized Person & all associated duties including Management of Inspection & Testing programme
• Supervising all operational and maintenance activities, to ensure work is executed in a safe and suitable manner and complies with SLA’s
• Supporting the Shift Engineering Teams to ensure correct operation of the critical services of the Data Centers
• You will have site sign off for works to take place and to accept successful completion ensuring all RA and MS and other technical sign off is in place prior to allowing works to take place. You will have the responsibility for ensuring all services are delivered to the highest technical standards, minimizing risk
• Taking responsibility for ensuring services are delivered in accordance with site and best practice processes and procedures

What are we looking for?

• Several years of experience working with HVAC and chiller systems in commercial, industrial, or data center environments
• Strong knowledge of:
• Chillers (air-cooled and water-cooled)
• Chilled water systems
• Cooling towers
• AHUs, FCUs, and ventilation systems
• Pumps, valves, and associated mechanical equipment
• Experience in fault finding, maintenance planning, and performance optimization
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs
• Familiarity with BMS (Building Management Systems) and energy efficiency practices
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
• Experience in critical environments such as data centers or manufacturing facilities
• F-Gas certification or relevant HVAC qualifications
• NVQ / City & Guilds in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (Level 2 or 3)
• Knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance methodologies
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for HVAC systems
• The ability to communicate effectively at all levels with good relationship building skills
• To undergo full security checks to BS7858:2019 standard
