Mechanical Project Engineer - Process Pipework and Plant Installation (Food Production)

Location:

Huddersfield | Full‑time | £60,000 – £65,000 + benefits

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Engineer with proven experience delivering process pipework and plant installation projects within the food production industry. You will manage projects valued between £10,000 and £5 million, from concept through to commissioning, ensuring compliance with industry standards, efficiency targets, and food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver mechanical engineering projects within food production facilities, typical process pipework and plant installations.
  • Ensure timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Design, develop, and implement mechanical solutions for process improvements and new installations.
  • Manage labour and materials, programme works, prepare tenders and negotiate contracts, and work with senior management to secure ongoing work.
  • Conduct risk assessments to ensure projects comply with health & safety and food hygiene standards.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable project engineering experience within food production industry, specifically process pipework and plant installations.
  • Strong knowledge of hygienic design, automation systems, and mechanical processes used in food manufacturing.
  • Proven track record of managing full project life cycles, from design through to installation and commissioning.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and project management tools.
