Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support pressure systems compliance and structural integrity on a major engineering programme in the South West UK. You will coordinate engineering teams, suppliers and regulators to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance throughout the lifecycle of critical pressure equipment.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in engineering and experience in highly regulated environments, with strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience on large-scale engineering projects or complex industrial assets.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries (Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Defence or Aerospace).
  • Knowledge of pressure systems, mechanical equipment, or asset integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of pressure systems compliance requirements across major projects.
  • Coordinate technical activities to ensure pressure equipment remains compliant with relevant regulations and engineering standards.
  • Manage interfaces between engineering teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Support structural integrity and pressure systems safety case requirements.
  • Review and coordinate technical documentation and engineering deliverables.
  • Manage technical queries and compliance-related actions through to resolution.
  • Support contract delivery and ensure suppliers meet project requirements.
  • Monitor compliance activities and escalate risks where required.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to ensure industry codes and standards are correctly applied.

Are you a Mechanical Engineer with experience in highly regulated industries looking to move beyond pure design engineering?

We're seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support the delivery of pressure systems compliance and structural integrity requirements on a major engineering programme. This is a technically focused coordination role, acting as the link between engineering teams, suppliers, regulators, and project stakeholders to ensure pressure equipment remains compliant throughout its lifecycle.

You'll be responsible for coordinating compliance activities, managing technical queries, and ensuring pressure systems and structural integrity requirements are delivered in line with applicable codes, standards, and safety case requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of pressure systems compliance requirements across major projects.
  • Coordinating technical activities to ensure pressure equipment remains compliant with relevant regulations and engineering standards.

Required Skills:

  • Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer or equivalent.
  • Experience working on large-scale engineering projects or complex industrial assets.
  • Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience within a highly regulated industry such as Nuclear, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Defence or Aerospace.
  • Understanding of pressure systems, mechanical equipment, or asset integrity.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple technical activities simultaneously.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, orequivalentmilitary experience.
  • Nuclear industry experience.
  • Experience managing pressure systems compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of structural integrity principles.
  • Familiarity with safety case environments.
  • Working knowledge of ASME, RCC-M, PED or related pressure equipment codes.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and external suppliers.
