Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc in Westhill, Aberdeenshire is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to drive projects from concept to completion, supporting design, manufacturing, testing and delivery. You will act as the central contact across internal teams, clients, suppliers and inspectors to ensure successful outcomes.

This full-time, permanent role requires security checks. You will coordinate with Sales, Supply Chain and Production, review documentation, manage risks and ensure deliverables

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience taking designs from concept through prototyping, validation and production.
• Knowledge of gas and fluid systems and industry guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and resolve engineering queries across projects and product ranges.
• Coordinate with Sales, Supply Chain and Production to deliver engineering solutions.
• Communicate project progress and engineering updates to stakeholders.
• Source components and materials and create BOMs and part numbers.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation, specs, schedules and reports.
• Identify, assess and manage technical and project risks throughout the lifecycle.
• Review drawings to ensure compliance with standards and quality expectations.
• Ensure deliverables are on time and within budget; support site visits as needed.
• Act as a central point of contact across internal teams, clients and inspectors.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide technical support and resolve engineering queries across projects and existing product ranges.
• Coordinate with internal departments, including Sales, Supply Chain and Production, to deliver effective engineering solutions.
• Communicate project progress and engineering updates to key stakeholders.
• Source components and materials and create associated part numbers and bills of materials.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation, including specifications, schedules, procedures, certification and reports.
• Identify, assess and manage technical and project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements and quality expectations.
• Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time and within budget, acting as a technical checker and supporting site visits to suppliers, clients and other company locations as required.

What We're Looking For

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques,
• Experience taking designs from concept through prototyping, validation and production.
• Skilled in preparing and managing engineering and project documentation.
• Knowledge of gas and fluid systems, relevant design standards, and industry guidelines (e.g. IMCA).
• Experience working to marine or defence standards, including class society rules such as LR and DNV.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems; product design, diving equipment design, or diving qualifications would be advantageous.
