The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Environment Business. Based in or around the Staffordshire region, you will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites and projects.

You will work on our South Staffs Water Framework, delivering a range of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil (MEC) schemes within the Water Industry. You will support project delivery from design through to construction, commissioning and handover.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Deliver water M&E projects, such as pumping stations, dosing systems, chlorination plants and associated civil structures
  • Lead outline engineering from project inception to completion, using in‑house, site and construction resources
  • Plan and coordinate early site investigation works with clients and design teams
  • Produce and review Health & Safety documentation, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Project Management Plans
  • Procure materials and equipment to support successful project delivery
  • Attend and undertake factory, site and works testing, commissioning and client training
  • Take part in internal and client design reviews and Hazard Studies to develop effective solutions
  • Support cost‑to‑complete and budget reviews with the project delivery teams
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors, and support preparation of subcontract orders
  • Support the evaluation and submission of variation claims
  • Work closely with Site Managers and site teams to ensure work is completed to programme, budget and quality standards
  • Develop, monitor and complete Inspection & Test Plans throughout the lifecycle of the scheme
  • Prepare and manage project programmes
  • Maintain high standards of Health & Safety performance through proactive site engagement
  • Support project close‑out documentation including As‑Builts, O&M Manuals and Commissioning Manuals
About You

We are looking for someone who has:

Essential
  • An industry‑applicable Mechanical ONC / HNC / B.Eng or NVQ equivalent
  • Proven experience within the Water Industry
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including MS Project
  • Excellent communication skills across email, phone and face‑to‑face environments
  • A trustworthy and ethical approach with discretion where required
  • Highly organised, structured and professional, with a passion for excellence
  • Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to build influential relationships at all levels
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders
Desirable
  • Chemical dosing experience
  • Experience leading or managing project functions
