Position Overview
The Mechanical Tradesperson is responsible for carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, fault-finding, and installation work on plant, equipment, and machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role involves both preventative and reactive maintenance activities and requires a high level of technical competence, safety awareness, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery.
- Diagnose faults using technical knowledge, drawings, and diagnostic tools.
- Conduct equipment overhauls, rebuilds, alignments, and component replacements.
- Install, commission, and test new mechanical equipment.
- Safety & Compliance
- Work in compliance with WHS/OHS regulations, company policies, and safe work procedures.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, and equipment defects.
- Participate in risk assessments, permits to work, and safety improvement initiatives.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
Technical & Operational Requirements
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Use precision tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
- Operate mobile plant or lifting equipment (e.g., forklifts, EWP, overhead cranes) where required.
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within operational timeframes.
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately complete job cards, service reports, and maintenance records.
- Maintain asset history in the CMMS (e.g., SAP, Pronto, MEX, or similar).
- Provide feedback on equipment performance and recommend improvements.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and maintenance teams.
- Support apprentices, contractors, or other trades when required.
- Communicate clearly regarding job progress, risks, and equipment status.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential
- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (e.g., Fitter & Turner / Fitter & Machinist / Maintenance Fitter).
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing/mining/industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
- Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measurement tools.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screening.
- Desirable (Role-Dependent)
- High-Risk Work Licences (e.g., LF, DG, WP, CN, RB, RA).
- Confined Space Entry certification.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Experience with CMMS systems.
- Welding or fabrication experience (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick).
- Experience in pump repair, gearbox rebuilds, conveyors, or heavy rotating plant.
- Basic electrical fault‑finding aptitude.
