Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor
Full Time, Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our clients Maintenance Department for a Mechanical Supervisor to join the team at the Chirnside Plant.
The Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to lead and support our mechanical maintenance team, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of maintenance and engineering activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional safety and quality leadership, act as a role model for others, and drive continuous improvement across all aspects of mechanical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the mechanical team (shift techs, day techs, apprentices, and contractors) to ensure safe, high-quality work.
- Drive safety and compliance with all company standards, legislation, and codes of practice.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all preventative, corrective, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Maintain a four-day rolling work plan and ensure timely completion of work orders in MX.
- Conduct regular site H&S checks and ensure accurate documentation and record keeping.
- Support and develop team members through training, guidance, and performance reviews.
- Manage workload, attendance, and performance issues in collaboration with HR.
- Attend weekly site meetings and communicate progress with site representatives.
- Collect and report monthly mechanical downtime data, driving continuous improvement.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with Ahlstrom’s standards.
- Balance office-based planning with hands‑on engineering support as required.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Time-served mechanical engineer or equivalent technical qualification (HNC/HND desirable).
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a manufacturing, process, or industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance practices, health & safety legislation, and reliability‑centered maintenance principles.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in maintenance management systems (e.g., MX or similar CMMS).
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
