Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve mechanical breakdowns, performing troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Support planned maintenance during scheduled machine shutdowns.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and welding/fabrication as required.
  • Maintain and inspect mechanical components including motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimise equipment performance.
  • Maintain high health, safety, and housekeeping standards.

Location: Leicester
Shift: Day Shift (Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:30pm, early finish Friday)
Salary: £43,723.68 per annum (up to £54,709 with shift cover allowance)

The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy engineering team on a day shift basis. The role involves both reactive maintenance and planned maintenance activities, including machine shutdowns, fabrication, and welding tasks. You'll ensure equipment runs efficiently and safely while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to and resolve mechanical breakdowns, performing troubleshooting and repairs
  • Support planned maintenance during scheduled machine shutdowns (2 per machine, 4 total per year)
  • Perform preventative maintenance and welding/fabrication as required
  • Maintain and inspect mechanical components, including motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimise equipment performance
  • Maintain high health, safety, and housekeeping standards
About You
  • Hands‑on experience in heavy industrial environments
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (Level 3 Apprenticeship or equivalent)
  • Skilled in mechanical fault finding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding/fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and schematic drawings
  • Proactive, reliable, and committed to quality and safety
