Job description

Multi‑Skilled Engineer (Mechanical Bias) - Location: Taunton, Somerset - £36,000 - £38,000

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00

Call‑out: 1 in 4 rota (£154 standby allowance)

We're looking for a Multi‑Skilled Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join a dedicated on‑site facilities team in Taunton. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining critical building services and ensuring all mechanical and electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer from a critical or high‑reliability background to take ownership of a key site and work as part of a skilled, supportive team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across all mechanical and building services systems.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on HVAC systems, pumps, valves, AHUs, and general building plant.
  • Support electrical maintenance activities and assist colleagues with multi‑discipline tasks.
  • Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations and site procedures.
  • Participate in a 1‑in‑4 call‑out rota, providing out‑of‑hours support when required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation.
Skills & Experience
  • Time‑served mechanical engineer (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experience in a critical environment such as data centres, hospitals, or manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, chilled water, and pressurised systems.
  • Basic electrical knowledge and willingness to work across disciplines.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • A proactive, reliable approach with a strong focus on quality and safety.
