Job summary

Astute's Power Team is recruiting a Lead Mechanical Technician for an Energy from Waste plant in Belfast. You will maximise plant availability by planning and executing maintenance on conveyors, pumps, valves and other mechanical assets, while leading the team and coordinating on-call support.

The role requires an apprentice in mechanical engineering, Level 3 qualification, and familiarity with MAXIMO/CMMS, PSSR and LOLER. You will drive safety, scheduling and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

• Maintains and optimises preventative maintenance plans in MAXIMO.
• Ensures permits, RAMS, parts and tooling are prepared before work.
• Leads mechanical maintenance team and drives safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Ensure maintenance complies with Safe Systems of Work and safety.
• Develop and review maintenance plans to maximise reliability.
• Plan work with permits, RAMS and parts ready before execution.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Engineer to resolve issues.
• Manage mechanical projects from planning to completion within budget.
• Lead and develop the maintenance team for high performance.

Astute's Power Team are recruiting a Lead Mechanical Technician for an Energy from Waste plant located in Belfast.

This new role within the maintenance department is focusing on maximising plant availability & reliability by carrying out a variety of engineering tasks on mechanical assets including conveyors, belts, pumps, valves, fans etc. This includes project engineering, supervisory duties and workload planning / scheduling.

Responsibilities and duties

• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Safe Systems of Work, prioritising the safety of people, plant and the environment.
• Develop, review and optimise preventative maintenance plans within Maximo to maximise plant reliability and minimise downtime.
• Plan maintenance work by confirming permits, RAMS, parts and tooling are in place before execution.
• Work with the Mechanical Engineer to resolve technical issues and improve maintenance strategies.
• Manage mechanical projects from planning through to completion, delivering on time and within budget.
• Lead and develop the mechanical maintenance team, driving safe working, high performance and continuous improvement.
• Ensure effective support of the on-call rota and out-of-hours maintenance activities.
• Manage planned, reactive and corrective mechanical maintenance to maximise plant availability.

Professional qualifications

• Apprentice qualified with a relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification
• Minimum Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• It would be advantageous to have an IOSH

Personal skills

• Knowledge of PSSR (pressure Systems Safety Regulations) and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
• Welding / Fabrication experience
• Leadership qualities
• Scheduling / Planning experience
• Familiarity with MAXIMO or similar Computerised Maintenance Management System
