A leading company in fluid control systems is seeking a Mechanical Instrumentation Technician to join their team in Thornaby-on-Tees. The role involves leading the installation and commissioning of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, along with diagnosing issues and ensuring safety compliance. Candidates should possess suitable vocational training and experience in the service industry, ideally with additional qualifications in hydraulics. This is a hands-on, technically demanding role that emphasizes safety and operational excellence.
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Instrumentation Technician to supplement the field service team as a focal point/lead for the manufacturing installation/integration of Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Hydrogen Gas Control Systems.
you will act as a technical lead on projects and also as a part of a larger team for construction and commissioning scopes.
This is a unique opportunity to support all established and developing areas of engineering through Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Marine and Renewables.
The position is focused in the Tees Valley however there is a requirement to travel to support the development of these industries and the company’s expectations for the growth of the Teesside Team.
This role is central to ensuring that daily operations run smoothly and safely, with a strong emphasis on proactive safety engagement through Toolbox Talks and daily activity planning.
You’ll be responsible for reviewing customer-supplied schematics, P&IDs, and general arrangements to define the scope of work and determine the necessary tools and equipment. Your expertise will guide the preparation of material take-offs and consumables lists, ensuring all project requirements are met with precision.
From producing detailed method statements and risk assessments to leading the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of complex fluid and gas systems, you’ll be at the forefront of technical delivery. You’ll also oversee the in‑house manufacturing, overhaul, and testing of hydraulic equipment—ensuring all work meets Hydrasun’s high standards of quality and aligns with customer specifications and project timelines.
This is a hands‑on, technically demanding role that requires a proactive mindset, strong leadership, and a commitment to excellence in both safety and engineering standards.
