Job summary

Swift Temps South West is hiring for a Mechanical Fitter I to join an established engineering and manufacturing business. The role focuses on hands-on mechanical assembly, basic pneumatic and structural tasks under supervision, with a path to Mechanical Fitter II.

You will work in the Production Line team, building high-quality assemblies to engineering specs and production schedules, while developing skills through the Mechanical Skills Matrix.

Qualifications

• Practical mechanical or engineering skills are essential.
• Some experience with mechanical assembly or fitting is beneficial.
• Ability to follow engineering instructions and specifications.
• Good attention to detail and quality mindset.
• Positive, reliable, and able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical assembly work under supervision.
• Complete basic pneumatic and structural assembly tasks.
• Build high-quality assemblies and machines to specs.
• Work to production schedules and meet customer deadlines.
• Complete required documentation for machine builds.
• Maintain tools and work areas to a high standard.
• Support daily 5S activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues across production and other departments.
• Develop skills through the Mechanical Skills Matrix.
• Assist with induction and training of new starters.
• Identify opportunities to improve build and testing processes.
• Support improvements to procedures, drawings and training docs.
• Participate in continuous improvement and Kaizen activities.
• Follow Health & Safety procedures and company policies.
• Ensure tools and equipment are maintained safely and fit for purpose.

Job description

An established engineering and manufacturing business based in Cheltemham is seeking a Mechanical Fitter I to join its production team.

This is a hands-on mechanical assembly role, ideal for someone with practical mechanical skills who is looking to develop further within an engineering environment. You will carry out mechanical, basic pneumatic and structural assembly work under supervision, with the opportunity to develop towards Mechanical Fitter II level.

Working within the Product Line team and reporting to the Product Line Supervisor, you will help build high-quality assemblies and machines in line with engineering specifications and production schedules.

Key responsibilities
