Mechanical Industrial Gearbox Fitter

Location: Huddersfield

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £38,000 – £48,000 per year (depending on experience)

Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:30am – 4:00pm (½ hour lunch)
  • Friday: 7:30am – 1:30pm (work through)
  • Overtime & weekend work available

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Industrial Gearbox Fitter to join our clients experienced engineering team. The successful candidate will have proven experience in stripping, inspecting, repairing, and rebuilding a range of industrial gearboxes including Helical, Worm, Bevel Helical, and Spur gearboxes.

You’ll be working on gearboxes ranging from 150kg up to 10 tonnes, servicing a diverse customer base across industries such as Steel Works, Chemicals, Distilleries, Oil & Gas, Wind Turbines, Quarries, Brick Manufacturing, Water Treatment, and Cooling Towers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strip down, inspect, and rebuild various types of industrial gearboxes.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and determine the most effective repair solutions.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to ensure rebuilds meet OEM standards.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team in a workshop environment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient workspace.
  • Participate in overtime and weekend work when required.
Requirements
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in gearbox fitting, repair, and assembly (essential).
  • Strong understanding of gearbox types and mechanical components.
  • Ability to handle gearboxes from 150kg up to 10 tonnes safely and efficiently.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (preferred).
